Alan Messenger was born to Bruce and Ellen Messenger in 1957. His parents bought their home on 8th Street in Newington when he was five, there he grew up with his mother, father, four sisters ( Debbie, Cheryl, Terry and Robin) and his grandmother, Stella Anderson (aka Nannie). He and his family attended First Lutheran Church in New Britain were the children were all Confirmed and the family are long time members. He has spent almost his whole life as a Newington resident and raised his three children, Daniel, Derick and Amanda, in the same neighbor hood.  He and his father with friends built a stock car ( #45 after their Eighth Street address) which he crashed up regularly at Stafford Motor Speedway for four years.

He joined the United States Navy at age 23 and was stationed in Mayport Navel base in Florida were he meet and married his wife of thirty one years.  He served his country well while touring the world seeing countries like Egypt, Spain, Italy, Greece, France and going through the Suez Canal. He was honorably discharged and began his career with Connecticut Boiler Repair in West Hartford. He also became a life member of the VFW Post 9929 where he had spent so much time with his parents growing up and marching the the Fife and Drum Core with his sisters.

He coached both sons through Newington Pee Wee football in the 90's and is still called “Coach” by grown men he coached as children. Having gotten all three children through their High School years and one through collage he became a dotting grandfather to his first grandchild, Tyler Robert, in December of 2002, and a spoiler of all that followed. There are now four: Tyler Robert, Clinton Myles, Nathaniel Juan and our peanut, Gloria Ellen. As the years continue he looks forward to many more milestone in his life.
